PHOENIX – A pedestrian died after getting hit by a vehicle on Camelback Road in west Phoenix on Monday night, authorities said.
Essence Stevenson, 27, was outside a crosswalk near 41st Avenue when she was hit, according to the Phoenix Police Department.
She was suffering from serious injuries when officers arrived at the scene around 7:15 p.m. and was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital.
“The preliminary investigation indicates that Stevenson was crossing Camelback Road, midblock, when she was struck by the vehicle involved, which was traveling westbound,” Sgt. Rob Scherer said in a media advisory.
Police said impairment is not believed to be a factor with the driver.
No other details were made available. The investigation into the vehicle-pedestrian collision is ongoing.
