Tempe Sports Complex to begin construction on 8 new pickleball courts

PHOENIX — Pickleball has been dubbed the fastest-growing sport in the U.S. and soon, there will be more courts available in Tempe.

The city of Tempe announced earlier this week that it will start construction on eight new pickleball courts at the Tempe Sports Complex next Monday, doubling the number of courts currently available.

The start of the project will see fencing go up, which will temporarily block off the two easternmost courts, leaving only six available.

The project is scheduled to be completed in late spring or early summer 2026.

The Tempe Sports Complex pickleball courts, which opened in 2019, were the first ADA-accessible courts in Arizona. They are free and open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis, unless a scheduled class is taking place.

The park can be found near Carver and Warner roads in Tempe.

Where else can pickleball be played in Tempe?

The city of Tempe has multiple other locations where pickleball enthusiasts can pick up their paddles and play on either indoor or outdoor courts.

Outdoor courts are available at:

• Indian Bend Park at 1250 E. Marigold Lane.
• Mary and Moses Green Park at 9325 S. Warner Ranch Drive.

Indoor courts can be found at:

• The Escalante Multi-Generational Center at 2150 E. Orange Street.
• The Kiwanis Recreation Center at 6111 S. All America Way.
• The North Tempe Multi-Generational Center at 1555 N. Bridalwreath Street.

Additionally, pickleball can be played at two privately owned facilities:

• Electric Pickle at 8688 S. Emerald Drive.
• The Picklr at 1315 W. Elliot Road (membership required).
