Pickleball facility in Chandler releases opening date

PHOENIX — A pickleball facility in Chandler released its opening date on Thursday.

The pickleball facility at Tumbleweed Park will open on Saturday, Sept. 6 — exactly a year after ground was broken on the courts.

“We appreciate the community’s support and guidance through the design and construction of this new facility,” Community Services Director John Sefton said in the announcement.

“As pickleball’s popularity has continued to grow, it was clear that Chandler had an opportunity to expand its footprint to accommodate the demand. We’re proud to complete this unique amenity, offering an affordable, accessible and welcoming environment to players of all ages.”

What will the pickleball facility and its grand opening include?

The new facility has 18 outdoor pickleball courts with LED lighting, practice areas, drinking fountains, restrooms and a parking lot.

On the day of the grand opening, Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke and the city council will do a ribbon cutting at 8:30 a.m.

Starting at 9 a.m., players will be able to play on the courts. It will be first-come, first-served.

In addition, there will be pickleball instructors available to help players from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. There will also be equipment available during that time.

The pickleball facility’s regular hours will be from 6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. every day.

During that time, the courts will be available for walk-in use unless the facility is reserved for city programming.
