1 arrested, 3 hospitalized after off-road vehicle crash in Mesa neighborhood

PHOENIX — One person is in custody and three others are in the hospital after an off-road vehicle crashed in a Mesa neighborhood early Saturday morning, authorities said.

According to the Mesa Police Department, officers responded to the area of Santa Rita Circle and Osage Avenue for the crash around 12:30 a.m.

Police said that a side by side vehicle was traveling southbound on Santa Rita Circle before turning west onto Osage Avenue.

However, due to the speed it was going, the side by side reportedly slid sideways over a curb and sidewalk before hitting a light pole.

There were five adults in the off-road vehicle and Mesa police said that three of the passengers were taken to a hospital.

One of them reportedly obtained critical injuries in the accident but is expected to survive. Police said that the other two occupants had non-life-threatening injuries.

According to police, the driver was arrested for extreme DUI and aggravated assault.
