84-year-old man struck, killed while crossing Phoenix street

An 84-year-old pedestrian is dead after being struck by a vehicle on Thursday night, authorities said. The collision took place around 7:30 p.m.

PHOENIX — An 84-year-old pedestrian is dead after being struck by a vehicle in Phoenix on Thursday night, authorities said.

Officers with the Phoenix Police Department responded to the scene near 32nd Street and Bell Road around 7:37 p.m.

They found Edward Pickles seriously injured. He was brought to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of vehicle stayed on the scene after the collision, police said. Impairment is not believed to be a factor.

Pickles apparently was crossing 32nd Street mid-block near Campo Bello Drive when he was hit, police said.

A charging decision will be made after the investigation is completed.

No investigation is needed. The roadways are not safe and need to be redone. More public transit, smaller vehicles, slower speeds, more lights, more crosswalks, more penalties for the drivers so they pay attention...
