PHOENIX — Arizona’s first Dick’s House of Sport is now open near the Westgate Entertainment District in Glendale.
The venue at 99th and Maryland avenues, just west of the Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway, held a grand opening celebration over the weekend.
Dick’s Sporting Goods bought the 11-acre property for $10.6 million, according to a February 2024 story in the Phoenix Business Journal.
“What an exciting moment for Glendale and the entire state of Arizona,” Glendale Mayor Jerry P. Weiers said in a press release ahead of Friday’s debut. “We’re proud to be home to the very first Dick’s House of Sport. Glendale keeps leading the way — attracting top-tier experiential retail businesses, fun experiences and great opportunities for our residents and visitors.”
How is House of Sport different than Dick’s Sporting Goods?
House of Sport is a new concept from Dick’s Sporting Goods, the nation’s largest sporting goods retailer.
In addition to selling sporting goods, the store offers facilities to test the gear out.
The new Glendale venue, which covers over 100,000 square feet, includes an outdoor track and turf field, a rock-climbing wall, golfing bays and a putting green. It also has a multi-sport HitTrax cage with real-time performance analytics for baseball, softball, soccer and lacrosse.
Dick’s debuted the House of Sport concept in 2021 and is aiming to open 75-100 stores under the name by 2027.
The plans include another Valley location near the SanTan Village shopping center in Gilbert.
