Arizona man sentenced to 17 years in prison for child sex crimes

An Arizona man was sentenced to 17 years in prison last week for child sex crimes, according to authorities.

PHOENIX — An Arizona man was sentenced to 17 years in prison last week for child sex crimes, according to authorities.

Robert Gilbert Berghofer, of La Paz County, was charged with three counts of possession of child sexual abuse material, according to an Arizona Attorney General Office release.

Court documents found the child in Berghofer’s materials was under 15 years old.

Additionally, Berghofer was ordered to register as a sex offender, serve a lifetime of probation and be monitored by GPS after his release.

He must also pay $10,000 in restitution to the victim.

“My office will continue to partner with law enforcement across Arizona to protect children and ensure that those who exploit them face serious consequences,” Attorney General Kris Mayes said in the release.

“There is no higher priority than safeguarding the most vulnerable among us. This sentence sends a clear message that we will not tolerate crimes against children, and we will do everything in our power to identify predators, bring them to justice, and prevent future harm.”
