Suspect indicted in Gilbert fatal shooting of landscaper

PHOENIX — A man was indicted on second-degree murder charges in the fatal shooting of a landscaper in Gilbert last week, authorities said.

Wyatt Ford, 28, is accused of shooting and killing 51-year-old Manuel Vega Lopez, according to the Gilbert Police Department.

Vega Lopez was hired by the landlord to do landscaping work at the rental property where Ford was living.

Officers responded to reports of two men arguing in a neighborhood near Power and Germann roads around 4:30 p.m., according to Gilbert police.

While on the way to the scene, police learned the argument had escalated to a shooting.

Police found Vega Lopez suffering from gunshot wounds where he was pronounced dead at the scene.
