Gilbert Police arrest man accused of fatally shooting man he was arguing with

PHOENIX — A man was arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Gilbert on Monday afternoon, authorities said.

The victim reportedly was hired by the landlord to do landscaping work at the rental property where the suspect was living.

Officers responded to reports of two men arguing in a neighborhood near Power and Germann roads around 4:30 p.m. on Monday, according to the Gilbert Police Department.

While on the way to the scene, they learned the argument had escalated to a shooting.

When they arrived, the officers found 51-year-old Manuel Vega Lopez with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The renter, 28-year-old Wyatt Ford, was booked into jail for second-degree murder.
