Phoenix launches notifications program for 1st responders

PHOENIX — People dialing 911 in Phoenix will soon be able to provide more details to first responders.

The Phoenix Police Department launched a new program called Smart Notifications on Monday. It allows Phoenix residents to inform authorities about mental health issues, cognitive impairments or other pertinent information about themselves or others, according to a Monday news release.

When people report as many details as possible, first responders are better equipped to solve problems, police said.

“Smart Notifications is providing officers more information so that they can be better equipped when responding to a home,” officer Sabrina Taylor said in the release.

How can Phoenix residents sign up for Smart Notifications?

Residents can sign up online to receive Smart Notifications. Residents can fill out a form for themselves, a family member, friend, caseworker or others they are concerned about at the residence.

The form is valid for one year and a renewal reminder notification will be sent out before expiration.
