Watch out for restrictions on I-10, US 60, SR 143 and Loop 101 this weekend

PHOENIX — Work on the Broadway Curve Improvement Project will disrupt traffic on three metro Phoenix freeways this weekend.

Specifically, drivers will need to watch for restrictions on Interstate 10, US 60 (Superstition Freeway) and State Route 143 (Hohokam Expressway), according to the Arizona Department of Transportation Weekend Freeway Travel Advisory for April 4-7. (All times below are subject to change.)

Westbound I-10 and associated ramps will be closed from SR 143 to the I-17 “Split” interchange near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport from 10 p.m. Friday to 10 p.m. Saturday for a traffic shift. After westbound I-10 reopens, it will be limited to two lanes from SR 143 to 24th Street until 4 a.m. Monday.

In addition, only two lanes of westbound I-10 from Guadalupe Road in Tempe to SR 143 in Phoenix will be open from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday.

During the full closure, motorists are advised to take eastbound US 60 in Tempe to the northbound Loop 101 Price Freeway to the westbound Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway to reconnect with westbound I-10 toward Phoenix.

Meanwhile, northbound SR 143 and associated ramps will be closed east of the airport from I-10 to the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway from 10 p.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Monday.

Motorists also should expect delays on westbound US 60, which will be reduced to one lane from Rural Road to I-10 from Friday to 4 a.m. Monday for a traffic shift related to the Broadway Curve project.

Will construction impact traffic elsewhere?

The only other restrictions on the metro Phoenix freeway system this weekend will be on the eastbound Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway, where the off-ramps at 51st and 35th avenues will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday for a widening project.
