PHOENIX — From LEGOLAND Discovery Center Arizona setting a new world record to a Loop 101 off-ramp closing for two months, here are some of the Valley’s top news stories from March 21-23.

LEGOLAND Discovery Center Arizona sets car building speed record

LEGOLAND Discovery Center Arizona set a new world record for the most LEGO racecars raced in three minutes.

The record was shattered Thursday morning in Tempe at the Arizona Mills mall, as members of the Creative Crew worked together to race 375 LEGO cars down a ramp.

In total, 260 cars composed of 3,000 LEGO bricks and 1,000 LEGO tire pieces were built by the group in 45 minutes.

Stretch of McKellips Road to close for 2 months as part of improvement project

A stretch of McKellips Road near the Loop 101 freeway near Scottsdale and Mesa will be closed for two months beginning Monday as part of a road improvement project.

At 5 a.m., McKellips Road between 92nd Street and Longmore Road will be closed to adjust a box culvert installation, according to the Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT).

As part of the closure, access to Dobson and Longmore Roads from McKellips Road will be off-limits. The closure is expected to last until May 23. 

Police investigating west Phoenix shooting that left 1 dead, 3 hospitalized

Police are investigating a west Phoenix shooting that left one man dead and hospitalized three others on Friday.

Officers responded to a shooting near 4100 North Black Canyon Access Road around 11:30 p.m. where they found 25-year-old Tyson Harris with a gunshot wound.

Harris was taken to the hospital where he later died due to his injuries.

Phoenix home decor boutique Fontaine & Co. opens brick-and-mortar showroom

A successful e-commerce shop recently expanded into a brick-and-mortar store in Phoenix.

Fontaine & Co., a home décor boutique that specializes in the Art Deco style, is now selling all sorts of goods at 1221 E. Northern Ave.

The company will celebrate the special grand opening on April 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. In addition to a ribbon-cutting with Secretary of State Adrian Fontes, there will be complimentary beverages, light bites, a raffle and an egg hunt with discounts for people who make purchases.

Loop 101 South off-ramp at Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd closing for 2 months

The southbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) off-ramp at Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard will be closing for two months, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The closure will begin at approximately 1 a.m. on Monday and is scheduled to conclude by the end of May.

The ramp’s closure is part of ADOT’s freeway widening project in north Scottsdale. The on- and off-ramps between Shea Boulevard and Pima Road/Princess Drive are being reconfigured to match the widened freeway. One lane in each direction will be added along 4.5 miles of the freeway.
