Valley can expect another round of rain as weekend begins

PHOENIX – The Valley’s wet week isn’t quite over, with another round of rain in the Phoenix forecast as the weekend begins.

“We’re not done with this unsettled pattern just yet,” Ryan Worley of the National Weather Service (NWS) in Phoenix told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Friday morning.

There’s a good chance for widespread rainfall later Friday, with the possibility of localized heavy downpours — perhaps even thunderstorms — and wind gusts up to 30 mph.

“There’s some isolated chances for the afternoon, but … the best chances will be confined to later in the evening and through the overnight hours,” Worley said.

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, which the NWS uses for the city’s official readings, received 0.35 inches Tuesday through Thursday.

With 0.74 inches in March through Thursday, it’s already Phoenix’s wettest month since 1.34 inches fell in March 2024.

What’s the Phoenix forecast for the weekend?

The total is expected to grow Friday night into Saturday before things settle down for the weekend.

“Most of the rain activity should be shutting down by early Saturday and be well east of here by that point,” Worley said. “The remainder of Saturday — at least through Saturday afternoon and evening — looks to be pretty good for the Phoenix metro.”

As of midday Friday, the daily high temperature in Phoenix was only 58 degrees. The mercury will rise as the weekend progresses, with highs in the middle to upper 60s on Saturday, Worley said.

“But as we head into Sunday, we’ll remain dry and we’ll actually see a bit of a warmup,” he said. “Still a little bit below normal, but much more comfortable in the lower 70s and ranging up to the middle 70s, as well.”

Meanwhile, multiple highways were closed in northern Arizona on Friday after a winter storm created dangerous driving conditions, with more snow expected in the high country.
