An Austin-based restaurant chain, Torchy's Tacos will be adding a fifth Arizona location in Surprise.

PHOENIX — Torchy’s Tacos, an Austin-based restaurant chain, will add a fifth Arizona location in Surprise.

The new taco joint’s doors will open at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at 16430 W. Waddell Road, west of Sarival Avenue.

The first 100 customers will get a limited-edition Torchy’s Tacos keychain earning them a year of free green chile queso at the new Surprise location.

What’s the story behind Torchy’s Tacos coming to Surprise?

Torchy’s Tacos is known for its unique taco menu servings such as the Trailer Park, The Hogfather and the Tipsy Chick. The menu also features margaritas and a rotating taco of the month.

The restaurant started 19 years ago when founder Mike Rypka bought a food trailer and a red Vespa and created an experimental taco menu.

Torchy’s Tacos has grown with more than 130 locations nationwide, including two Phoenix locations, and one each in Queen Creek and Gilbert.

“We’re very excited to continue our growth in Arizona this Spring. It feels natural to bring our little Torchy’s devil to Sun Devil country,” Torchy’s Tacos founder Mike Rypka said in a press release.
