4 dead, 8 injured after massive crash on Interstate 10 west of Valley

PHOENIX — Four individuals are dead and eight others were hospitalized after a crash on Interstate 10 west of Tonopah on Saturday afternoon, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

In a Sunday morning update, DPS announced that four people died, two remain in critical condition, one is receiving treatment and five others have been released from the hospital.

The Arizona Department of Transportation said the crash happened near milepost 88, west of Tonopah, just prior to 1 p.m. on Saturday.

DPS said the crash involved six commercial vehicles, four passenger vehicles, a van and a recreational vehicle towing a trailer.

Both directions of I-10 closed due to the crash but have since been reopened.

An investigation by the Arizona Highway Patrol remains ongoing.
