Officials seek public input on potential new Loop 303 interchange

PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Transportation wants commuters to share their thoughts on a potential Loop 303 interchange between US 60 and El Mirage Road in the West Valley.

Officials are encouraging the public to share their thoughts on the potential new interchange, which ADOT hopes will cut down on growing traffic congestion in the area of the US 60/Loop 303 traffic interchange and the US 60/163rd Avenue intersection.

Currently, ADOT is partnering with the cities of Peoria and Surprise, as well as the Maricopa County Association of Government (MAG), to study the best traffic interchange alternatives.

How drivers can comment on potential Loop 303 interchange

Drivers and commuters can share their public feedback through March 24 by filling out an online survey.

The survey will ask them to provide feedback on four locations ADOT is considering for a potential new Loop 303 interchange:

• 155th Avenue.
• 151st Avenue.
• 147th Avenue.
• Litchfield Road.

Each of these locations would provide access to Loop 303 to and from the north, with no direct roadway connection to the nearby communities of Sun City West or Corte Bella.

How would the potential Loop 303 interchange impact West Valley traffic?

The potential Loop 303 interchange would also require a new bridge over the McMicken Dam Outlet Channel to connect the interchange to local roadways to the north, ADOT said.

It also might require additional drainage and right of way improvements.

ADOT also said the project would require future local roadway connections to the interchange. Impacted roadways on local streets north of Loop 303 would also need to be widened.

However, the roads that would be worked on haven’t been identified because they’d vary depending on the final location ADOT chooses for the Loop 303 interchange.

Local jurisdictions would be held responsible for building the roadway improvements.
