$50,000 Powerball ticket sold in Phoenix over the weekend

PHOENIX — A Powerball ticket worth $50,000 was sold at a Phoenix grocery store for Saturday’s drawing.

The winner was sold at the Fry’s Food Store at 83rd Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road.

The ticket matched four of the five numbers and the Powerball number. Saturday’s winning numbers were 3, 16, 45, 54 and 56 with a Powerball number of 12.

How good are the odds of winning in Powerball drawings?

There’s a 1 in 913,129 chance to hit the five-figure prize, good odds compared to the jackpot chances of 1 in 292,201,338.

As with all Arizona Lottery games, winners have to claim their prizes within 180 days of the drawing.

This was the third $50,000 winner in the span of a week and a half. Two other people won on Feb. 12 and 10, respectively.

When are Powerball drawings held?

Powerball is a multistate game of chance with drawings on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The jackpot went unclaimed on Wednesday and will grow to an estimated $172 million for the next drawing.

Tickets are sold for $2 per entry at more than 3,000 Arizona Lottery retailers.
