Man found dead in vehicle outside West Valley restaurant

PHOENIX – A man was found dead in the parking lot of an Avondale restaurant on Monday, prompting lockdowns of nearby schools, authorities said.

The victim was in a vehicle outside Number 1 Buffet on McDowell Road near 99th Avenue, just south of the Gateway Pavilions shopping center, according to the Avondale Police Department.

Officers found the man, who suffered an apparent gunshot wound, when they responded to a shooting call in the area.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

While police searched the area for possible suspects, nearby schools were locked down as a precaution.

No other information was made available. The investigation is ongoing.
