Mesa man arrested for sexual abuse, indecent exposure at retirement community

PHOENIX — A man was arrested for inappropriately touching and exposing himself to victims at a retirement community in Mesa, authorities said.

John “Jack” Grefe was booked on Oct. 12 with eight counts of sexual abuse and two counts of indecent exposure, Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said in a release.

In April, deputies received several calls of inappropriate sexual contact and indecent exposure at the Leisure World Community near Broadway and Power roads.

The calls all reported that Grefe had exposed or inappropriately touched victims while servicing their golf carts.

Grefe was a resident at Leisure World and known to be handy with golf cart repairs and would do the repairs for free or minimal cost, authorities said.

The Special Victims Unit investigated five known victims, all members of Leisure World, and received similar accounts of Grefe’s actions.

Detectives concluded their investigation and submitted the case to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office for charging, leading to Grefe’s arrest.
