Suspect detained after shooting left man dead in Phoenix

PHOENIX — Phoenix police are investigating a shooting that left one man dead on Saturday morning.

Officers responded to the area of 19th and Dunlap avenues around 1 a.m. after receiving a call about a shooting, Phoenix police said in a press release.

When authorities arrived on the scene, 52-year-old Wilbur Shannon had an apparent gunshot wound.

He was transported to a local hospital and later pronounced deceased, authorities said.

The adult male who shot the victim remained at the scene and was detained after officers learned that a verbal altercation caused the shooting.

No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
