PHOENIX — General Motors is looking to hire hundreds of software-based positions at its center in Chandler, the Arizona School Boards Association is exiting the national group over controversy, and the body of a previously reported missing man was found outside a Phoenix home.

Here are some of the biggest stories that headlined the Arizona news cycle over the weekend.

GM hiring for hundreds of software-based jobs at Chandler technology center

General Motors is looking to hire hundreds of software-based positions at its Arizona Information Technology Innovation Center in Chandler.

The company is seeking to grow its 1,000-member workforce at the East Valley facility, one of its four national technology hubs.

Available positions include software developers, software developers in-test, data analysts, business analysts, product managers, project/scrum managers and software architects.

Arizona School Boards Association leaving national group over controversy

The Arizona School Boards Association says it is leaving the National School Boards Association because it continues to be beleaguered by controversy surrounding the national organization.

ASBA Executive Director Sheila Harrison-Williams notified NSBA Executive Director John Heim of the state group’s decision in a letter Wednesday, the Arizona Capitol Times reported.

Harrison-Williams’ letter referred to a letter from the national association sent to President Joe Biden last fall asking him to use federal law enforcement to help respond to threats and acts of violence against school board members and equating some of the acts to those of “domestic terrorism.”

Remains of previously missing adult male found outside Phoenix home

Police are conducting an investigation after the remains of a 44-year-old man were found outside a Phoenix home on Saturday.

Officers responded to a call for service in the area near 35th and Alice avenues around 12:30 a.m. about a dead body outside, Phoenix police said in a press release.

When police arrived on the scene, officers found the remains of an adult male in an advanced stage of decomposition, according to police.

Former Arizona Senator David Bradley dies at 69

Former Arizona Senator David Bradley, a longtime Democrat, died Saturday.

His death was announced by Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey’s office. A cause was not mentioned.

Ducey ordered flags at all state buildings to be lowered to half-staff on Sunday from sunrise to sunset in his honor.

Police investigate homicide that leaves 1 man dead, another injured in Phoenix

Phoenix police are in the early stages of a homicide investigation after a 38-year-old man died from a gunshot wound near a canal Friday morning.

Officers responded to the area of 35th Avenue and Osborn Road around 4 a.m. about a shooting close to the canal, Phoenix police said in a press release.

When they arrived, they found two men who had been shot.

Brian Donin, 38, died from his injuries on scene, while the other man, who authorities haven’t identified, was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
