Tesla driver faces murder charges in August wreck that killed 3 in Glendale

PHOENIX – A man was jailed Wednesday on murder charges four months after he allegedly sped through a red light while possibly under the influence of cannabis, causing a wreck that killed three young adults, authorities said.

Carlos Daniel L. Gonzalez self-surrendered and was booked on three counts of second-degree murder, the Glendale Police Department said in a press release.

Police say Gonzalez was driving 82 mph in a Tesla heading west on Bethany Home Road on Aug. 25 when he ran a red light at 83rd Avenue.

Gonzalez’s car collided with a vehicle heading north on 83rd Avenue.

Ariyanna Alexus-Savina Parsad, 18, who was driving through a green light, 19-year-old Jazmine Esperanza Marquez and 18-year-old Kiyvon Corlion Martin died from their injuries.

Gonzalez, who was 22 at the time of the wreck, was hospitalized with serious injuries.

Police said they recently received lab results showing that Gonzalez had THC, the chemical that produces the high in marijuana and other cannabis products, in his system.
