Phoenix expected to get more rain this week, starting early Tuesday

PHOENIX — More rain is expected to drop in Phoenix this week following the wettest Christmas Eve in history.

Precipitation chances resume early Tuesday morning and will reach 80% by midday, according to the National Weather Service.

Chances will drop to 20% by Tuesday evening before jumping to 50% on Wednesday and 70% on Thursday.

Rainfall totals likely won’t match what was seen last Friday when a daily record of 1 inch was observed.

Accumulation could total a tenth of an inch Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday, up to a quarter of an inch could fall in areas.

Temperatures will remain cool as a result of the impending system.

The forecast calls for highs of 56 on Tuesday, 57 on Wednesday and 61 on Thursday.

The lows are expected to hover between 43 and 49 degrees through Thursday.

There’s a good chance rain could be a guest on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, as well.

NWS is predicting a 70% chance of rain on Friday with wind gusts of up to 25 mph. On Saturday, rain chances are 40%.

For those traveling north this week, storms could lead to difficult driving conditions.

Flagstaff has a 30% chance of snow showers on Monday and chances will continue throughout the week.

There’s a good possibility for several inches of accumulation by the weekend, according to NWS.

Flagstaff is under a wind advisory until Tuesday at 5 p.m. because of gusts of up to 40 mph.
