Snowbird reversal: Phoenix has coldest temps in months while Midwest sees unusual warmth

PHOENIX — Snowbirds hoping to escape the Midwest’s cold December weather aren’t getting much luck this week in Phoenix.

After a rainy and windy start to the week, Phoenix saw the mercury drop to 40 degrees on Thursday morning, the lowest mark since it was 39 degrees on March 1.

Phoenix is only supposed to reach 63 degrees Thursday, a temperature that several Midwest cities were nearly hitting in the early hours of the day.

It was 62 degrees at 1 a.m. in Cleveland, while Detroit reached 60 degrees at 10 a.m.

Indianapolis; Cincinnati, Ohio; and Grand Rapids, Michigan; all also had 60-degree weather on Thursday.

Phoenix will get a slight increase in temperatures heading into the weekend and the start of winter on Tuesday.

Friday is forecasted to remain chilly, with a high of 63 and low of 47.

Saturday will warm to 68 degrees, then Sunday will hit 69 degrees. The lows are expected to be 47 degrees both days.

Monday, the final day of fall, is forecasted to have a high of 70 degrees and a low of 48 degrees.
