Firefighters rescue injured hiker on South Mountain in helicopter

PHOENIX — The cities of Phoenix, Tempe, Chandler and Mesa responded to an injured hiker on South Mountain on Saturday.

The man fell approximately six feet several miles into his hike, likely fracturing his leg and hip, according to a press release.

Firefighters hiked the trail and found him under a tree in serious pain, although he was in stable condition. He was provided an IV and a leg splint to stabilize the injury.

He then got loaded into a flight basket and hoisted away via helicopter to a nearby ambulance.

At that point, he was in serious condition and taken to a local emergency department for treatment.

All firefighters are off the mountain with no reported injuries, according to the release.
