Mesa police shoot, injure woman armed with multiple weapons

PHOENIX – Police in Mesa said they shot and wounded a woman who would not drop her weapons during a confrontation Wednesday night.

The Mesa Police Department said Thursday they had received a report that the unidentified woman was armed with multiple weapons and threatening suicide outside a home near Brown and Power roads.

Another call followed while police were en route saying a shot had been fired, a department spokesman said.

Officers arrived around 9:30 and found the woman and a neighbor outside of a house. An officer told the woman to put down the weapons. She did not, police said, and officers fired.

She was taken to a hospital with injuries that weren’t life-threatening, police said.

No other details were immediately made available

The investigation is ongoing, the department said.

It was the fourth shooting of the year involving Mesa police and 32nd overall in the Valley by law enforcement, according to KTAR News 92.3 FM research.
