Florida man flips car after texting while driving, survives

A Florida man who admitted to texting while driving is lucky to be alive after flipping his car, according to WJLA-TV.

Early on Jan. 4, Michael Woody, 23, was driving in Fort Myers, Fla., when police began following him for driving erratically. Shortly after turning onto a city street, Woody drifted across the lane before smashing into a bus stop sign and tree. Woody crawled out, unharmed, completely oblivious to the police that had been following him.

Woody admitted to sending a text at the time of the accident. He was charged with careless driving and texting while driving. Florida’s texting law, however, requires a driver to be pulled over for something else first before being cited for texting and driving.
