DUI task forces to set up in Phoenix area for Thanksgiving weekend

PHOENIX – The coronavirus pandemic has changed Thanksgiving break plans for many, but DUI task forces will still be on the job at sobriety checkpoints set up across the Valley.

The state Governor’s Office of Highway Safety said checkpoints get underway as soon as Wednesday night in some areas of Phoenix.

“We want everyone to enjoy the holiday festivities and to do so responsibly by having a designated driver, calling a friend, a ride service or taking a taxi home,” office director Alberto Gutier said in a press release.

Checkpoints will be enforced every weekend through Dec. 31.

Police from Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, Scottsdale, Tempe, Arizona State University and Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community and deputies from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office will be working in the East Valley.

In the West Valley, police from Avondale, Buckeye, El Mirage, Glendale, Goodyear, Peoria, Surprise, Tolleson and Wickenburg will be joined by the Arizona Department of Public Safety and sheriff’s deputies.

City police and state troopers will be on patrol in Phoenix.
