Semi-trailer crashes, loses packages on Interstate 10 in West Valley

PHOENIX – A semi-trailer went off the road and hit a wall late Sunday, cracking nearly in half and shutting down a ramp on Interstate 10 in metro Phoenix.

The hit-and-run accident closed westbound lanes at the Bullard Avenue entrance in Goodyear for over 12 hours.

A spokesman for the Arizona Department of Public Safety said in an email to KTAR News 92.3 FM on Monday that witnesses told investigators a Honda sedan cut in front of a FedEx truck to get off the freeway around 11:45 p.m.

The delivery truck jackknifed and rolled down an embankment, where it smashed into a sign pole and a wall.

Packages spilled out of the trailer as it split open, ABC15 reported. Other debris also landed on the freeway.

The truck driver was taken to a hospital suffering from injuries that weren’t life-threatening.

The ramp reopened around 12:40 p.m.
