Phoenix Symphony cancels 2020-21 season due to coronavirus

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Symphony announced Monday it had canceled the 2020-21 season because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Suzanne Wilson, the symphony’s president and CEO, said the pandemic has caused a “tremendous financial impact” on the organization.

The symphony’s 74th year was scheduled to kick off Sept. 19.

“Forgoing these performances is disappointing to our musicians, staff, board of directors and loyal patrons and friends,” Wilson said in a press release.

“However, this cancellation represents the safest and most prudent plan to ensure the well-being of the entire symphony community.”

The remainder of the 2019-20 symphony season was canceled in late March due to COVID-19.

The symphony is asking those who purchased tickets to consider putting the money back into the organization for future shows.

Symphony representatives will be available for ticket questions via phone weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 602-495-1999.
