Phoenix weekend starts hot with a 94-degree low Saturday morning

At 12:21 a.m. Saturday, the Phoenix National Weather Service tweeted the temperature:

One hundred degrees.

That was the prelude to a hot night and day that never really cooled down.

The low temperature on Saturday morning was 94 degrees, setting a July 11 daily record for hottest low in the city. It broke the 2010 mark of 91 degrees.

Saturday’s low temperature goes down as one of the highest lows ever recorded in Phoenix.

An excessive heat warning is in effect this weekend in Phoenix.

The National Weather Service forecast a high of 115 degrees Saturday, which is expected to arrive in the 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. window.

The warning went into effect Friday at 10 a.m. and will end Monday at 8 p.m.

The temperature could reach 117 degrees Sunday and is expected to return to 115 degrees on Monday.

So far, the hottest day of the year in Phoenix was 112 degrees. The city hit 110 degrees for the first time this year May 29.
