Sen. McSally calls Great American Outdoors Act win for Arizona

The Great American Outdoors Act will provide nearly $3 billion for projects and maintenance for national parks and other public lands.

PHOENIX – U.S. Sen. Martha McSally called the Great American Outdoors Act a win for Arizona’s national parks and the economy.

The Great American Outdoors Act will provide nearly $3 billion on conservation projects, outdoor recreation and maintenance of national parks and other public lands.

“The Great American Outdoors Act delivers on my promise to improve access to our public lands for multiple use and repair neglected infrastructure so Arizonans and visitors from around the country and world can enjoy these spaces for generations to come,” McSally said in a memo this week.

The bill will also permanently fund the Land and Water Conservation Fund with $900 million per year.

In Arizona, the LWCF helps protect places like the Saguaro National Park, Coconino National Forest, and Havasu National Wildlife Refuge.

McSally introduced the bill on March 9. It passed the Senate Wednesday, and President Donald Trump is expected to sign it soon.

McSally said the act provides a massive investment into the state’s outdoor recreation and tourism economy.

“This bill will deliver hundreds of millions of dollars of investments into rural economies throughout Arizona and spur tens of millions more in local tax revenue,” McSally said. “It will ensure the public lands in our state will be more accessible and work better for our residents.”
