PHOENIX – The final round of Arizona’s massive testing initiative will wrap up on Saturday.

The “Arizona Testing Blitz,” announced April 27, set a goal of testing 10,000-20,000 Arizonans for COVID-19 across three weekends.

The program was later extended for two more weeks in an effort to continue ramping up testing in the state.

According to the Arizona Department of Health Services, there are more than 40 sites participating in COVID-19 testing.

Coronavirus antibody testing is not part of the program.

The majority of the sites require pre-registration online or over the phone.

Maricopa County has been the hardest hit in the state and it has 26 of the testing sites on Saturday. The county had 8,896 confirmed cases of the virus as of the report on Thursday.

Coronavirus cases in Arizona reached 17,763 confirmed cases Thursday, reporting a daily increase of 501 cases. The state also has 857 documented coronavirus deaths.

More than 287,000 combined tests for active COVID-19 infections (PCR testing) and antibodies (serology testing) have been given in Arizona, including 8,055 added to the total Thursday. Of those that have been processed, 5.5% have come back positive.

According to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, Arizona currently ranks 48th among states in coronavirus testing per capita.
