Doctor at Phoenix Children’s Hospital clinic tests positive for coronavirus

PHOENIX – A doctor who works for Phoenix Children’s Hospital has tested positive for COVID-19, the hospital said Wednesday.

The physician works at one of PCH’s outpatient clinics. He or she treated one patient on Friday and didn’t examine any other patients last week.

The physician is self-isolating and recovering at home.

“Our providers are on the front lines of an unprecedented public health emergency,” the hospital said in a press release. “They are abiding by all guidelines issued by national and local health authorities.”

The hospital has notified the family and other staff members who had contact with the doctor.

The doctor started showing symptoms Friday while off-duty.

It’s believed the doctor was exposed to the virus in a community setting.

The hospital said exposure is unlikely due to its precautionary measures in the clinic.
