Phoenix area could be looking at 4 straight days of rain

PHOENIX – The bit of rain that fell on the Phoenix area Tuesday will grow into something more potent and unusual in the next couple of days, a weather expert said.

More rain was expected to makes its way to the Valley through Friday, the National Weather Service in Phoenix said. Such a four-day run would be odd for the area this time of year.

“Not that it’s going to rain at your house every minute of the day going through those several days,” forecaster Chris Breckenridge told KTAR News 92.3 FM.

But chance of rain was as high 70% for the week, with Thursday into Friday likely to get the worst of it.

As much as 1½ inches could come down during those hours.

Thunderstorms and gusty winds were a possibility by Wednesday.

Combining the days, Breckenridge thinks about 2 inches will hit the streets and washes.

“It’s not like March is always dry,” Breckenridge said.

“You get the odd weather system that moves in for a day or two, might disrupt the spring training games for an afternoon, but then they move out and it gets nice again for a while.”

But something this persistent doesn’t happen that often here this time of year, he said.
