Man fatally struck by car as he runs across Interstate 17 in Phoenix

PHOENIX – An unidentified man running across Interstate 17 near downtown Phoenix was hit by a car and died early Monday, authorities said.

A spokesman for the Arizona Department of Public Safety said in an email that the man was hit around 3 a.m near 16th Street.

Troopers found the man was unresponsive and resuscitation attempts failed.

He was pronounced dead at Maricopa County Hospital.

The driver remained at the scene and told officers the man jogged right in front of his vehicle.

The road was closed for about an hour.

No other details were immediately available.
