PHOENIX – A woman crossing a street in Phoenix was fatally struck by two cars Tuesday night, police said.

The woman, 34, whose name was not released, was walking in the middle of the block near 35th and Missouri avenues when she was initially hit by a sedan around 9:40 p.m.

The driver, a 27-year-old woman, told officers she saw the other woman and tried not to run into her.

Another car, driven by a 19-year-old man, also hit the woman.

The victim was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Neither driver nor the passenger in the first car were injured.

All three stayed to talk with police. Impairment was not a factor in the accident, according to an email Wednesday from Detective Luis Samudio. Speed likely wasn’t a reason, either, he said.
