Hiker goes down on Camelback Mountain; Phoenix Fire swoops in

PHOENIX – An out-of-town hiker had to be rescued by Phoenix firefighters Sunday after she hurt her ankle while climbing Camelback Mountain.
The unidentified 29-year-old was hoisted off the Cholla Trail by first responder technical rescue teams. They were sent to the site around 1 p.m.
The woman had gotten about three-quarters of the way up the mountain before she was injured, according to a fire department e-mail.
The woman was alert and talked to the team on the phone before they reached the mountain.
A helicopter brought her down to the base of Echo Canyon, and from there she was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
Phoenix Fire Department technical rescue teams made their way up Camelback Mountain on the Cholla Trail. Rescuers were dispatched just before 1:00pm this afternoon for reports of a 29-year-old female hiker with an ankle injury 3/4 of the way up the mountain. Once firefighters made contact with the hiker, they determined the safest most effective route down the mountain was with assistance from Firebird 10 rescue helicopter. The hiker, who is visiting the valley from out of town, was strapped into a screamer suit and hoisted off the mountain and brought down to the landing zone at the base of Echo Canyon. She was transported by ambulance in stable condition to a local hospital for further evaluation. #phoenixfiredepartment #mountainrescue #takeahike #hikeright #firefighters #rescuehelicopter

A team also brought down a woman who hurt her ankle on South Mountain on Saturday.
A week ago, the Phoenix teams pulled a 49-year-old man off Piestewa Peak and a 42-year-old woman off South Mountain.
