2 seriously hurt after car crashes into tree, catches fire in Phoenix

PHOENIX — Two people were in serious condition after a vehicle hit a palm tree and caught fire early Sunday, according to Phoenix Fire.

The incident occurred around 1:20 a.m. near 35th Avenue and Indian School Road.

Alondra Cervantes Natividad, 24, was driving a 2015 Nissan Altima westbound when she “failed to control the speed to avoid a collision,” according to Phoenix Police Sgt. Tommy Thompson.

Thompson said upon arrival, officers found that Natividad, along with three other passengers, had been removed from the burning vehicle by witnesses.

A 15-year-old boy and a 23-year-old man suffered serious injuries in the collision and were hospitalized, according to Thompson.

An 18-month-old boy was also in the vehicle, but he was not injured.

Natividad, who had minor injuries, was arrested for aggravated assault and aggravated DUI.
