Phoenix PD: Man reported missing is struck, killed by car

PHOENIX — A 75-year-old man was struck and killed while crossing the street near Interstate 17 and Greenway Road, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

The incident occurred around 1:15 a.m. and the man has been identified as Robert T. Joey, according to authorities.

He was reported missing on Saturday after being last seen walking away from Christown Mall.

Joey was not using a crosswalk when he was struck by a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta Sedan that was being driven by a 26-year-old, according to police.

Authorities say that the driver saw Joey in the street just prior to striking him, but was “unable to stop or avoid the collision.”

The driver remained on scene, but speed and impairment do not appear to be factors at this time, according to police.
