Poll shows Arizona voters want Trump to stay in office, but by small margin

PHOENIX – More Arizona voters than not would rather keep President Donald Trump in office even though they disapprove of the way he does his job, according to a new poll.

As impeachment inquiry public hearings got under way in Washington on Wednesday, a poll of registered Arizona voters showed 47% to 42% favored keeping Trump in office. But 50% disapproved of his performance.

The OH Predictive Insights survey results of 900 registered voters was split along party lines – 79% of Republicans thought Trump shouldn’t be impeached and removed from the White House; 80% of Democrats wanted him out.

Independents came in at 46% for keeping him in office.

“The current exercise looks illegitimate to a great many Americans, even those Americans not partisan,” conservative political consultant Stan Barnes of Phoenix told KTAR News 92.3 FM.

“The Trump impeachment seems like merely a political tactic by the president’s opponents,” he said.

Ratings for Trump’s job performance found 46% overall approved.

Republicans rubber-stamped Trump’s effort at 82% to just 12% of Democrats. Independents approved at 41%.

In other poll participant breakdowns, 560 were from Maricopa County; overall, 311 identified as Republican, 276 as Democrats and 312 as independents. The gender split was 461 women, 439 men.

The online panel was surveyed Oct. 31-Nov. 8.

The poll’s margin of error was plus or minus 3.27%.
