Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputy involved in fatal accident

PHOENIX – A Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputy was involved in a fatal accident in the West Valley on Monday afternoon, authorities said.

An MCSO vehicle and another vehicle collided around 2 p.m. in the area of Baseline Road and 78th Avenue in the Gila River Indian Community, according to the Gila River Police Department.

The other vehicle had three adult occupants, police said. One was pronounced dead at the scene, and the others were transported to treat unspecified injuries.

The deputy was taken to a hospital with unspecified injuries that weren’t life-threatening.

Tribal police, EMS and fire departments responded to the accident.

The Gila River Police Department’s investigation was ongoing.
