Labor Day weekend will be a very hot time for Phoenix area

PHOENIX – The last holiday of the summer will come with an excessive heat warning for the Phoenix area, weather experts said, as Labor Day weekend approached.

Temperatures were expected to reach 110 degrees Friday, when the heat warning goes into effect at 10 a.m., and Saturday, when the warning was scheduled to end at 8 p.m.

Lows will drop into the mid- to upper 80s, ABC15 meteorologist Iris Hermosillo told KTAR News 92.3 FM.

There was a chance of rain Sunday, the National Weather Service said, but mostly, it’s going to be really hot.

It’s the second excessive heat warning of the week. The high Tuesday hit 111 degrees.

Valley residents have withstood 27 days of 110 degrees or better since June. The first was June 12, when the heat topped out at 112 degrees.

The first 100-degree in the area happened June 5. The day finished at 102 degrees.

Since then, it’s been under 100 degrees twice.
