Excessive heat to cook Phoenix area early in week, then let up some

PHOENIX – There may be some humidity in the air around metro Phoenix, but that seems to have no effect on rising heat for part of this week, with another excessive heat watch on the books.

The highs Tuesday and Wednesday were expected to reach 110 degrees, after a Monday that was predicted to top out a couple degrees just under that.

“Not record levels, but pretty close,” Mark O’Malley, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service’s Phoenix bureau told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Monday.

A week ago, the Valley population sweated out record-setting highs on back-to-back dates.

The latest warning will be the fourth excessive heat episode of the month; the hottest day was Aug. 5 at 115 degrees, which also matched the hottest day of the summer, first reached July 16.

That kind of scorching will miss the Valley this week, “but it’s still going to be hot,” O’Malley said.

There could be a chance for rain late in the week, weather service meteorologist Chris Kuhlman told KTAR News.

“It looks to be a lot better chances than what we’ve seen lately,” Kuhlman said.

The 2019 monsoon season has produced 0.11 inches of rain in August.
