Goodyear police dog retires after 7 years of service

PHOENIX — A Goodyear police dog is done fighting crime and will have a life filled with bones and belly rubs.

Rudy was honored Monday during Goodyear’s city council meeting for seven years of service with the police department.

He was awarded with a new bowl and the GYPD Medal of Valor for his heroics by Goodyear Police Chief Jerry Geier.

Rudy became a Goodyear police dog in April 2012.

He did most of his work with patrols and narcotics, in which he was certified.

During his time as a police dog, he apprehended over 100 criminals, sniffed out over 850 pounds of marijuana and helped seize over $100,000.

In his retirement, Rudy will live with a Goodyear police officer and his family.
