Harkins hosting movie premiere about Phoenix-based Make-A-Wish founder

PHOENIX — Harkins Theatres is set to host the nationwide premiere of a movie about the founder of Phoenix-based children’s charity Make-A-Wish Foundation.

“Wish Man” will screen at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Harkins Camelview near Fashion Square in Scottsdale.

The movie is a biographical drama about the life of Frank Shankwitz, who found hope in the shape of a terminally ill boy after Shankwitz survived a near-fatal accident almost 40 years ago.

Shankwitz created Make-A-Wish in 1980 to honor the boy.

Shankwitz will be in attendance for the premiere, per a press release.

“I am deeply honored and excited that Harkins is opening ‘Wish Man’ in the heart of Scottsdale at the amazing Harkins Camelview,” he said in a press release.

“It has been almost 40 years since the inauguration of the Make-A-Wish Foundation and it has been a most incredible, inspiring and uplifting journey.”

Shankwitz is played by Australian actor Andrew Steel. The movie will open in theaters Friday.
