Phoenix girl visits Vatican City thanks to Make-A-Wish Arizona

Since it was founded in Phoenix in 1980, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has allowed children with life-threatening illness from all over the world to achieve their wildest dreams.

Now, a girl from the Valley is a little bit happier. 15-year-old Jazmin Negrete has a rare form of stomach cancer and now only has weeks to live after being diagnosed in May 2015. One of her last wishes was to meet Pope Francis to receive her last rites and be blessed.

Make-A-Wish Arizona was able to make the dream a reality in June, and Negrete made the journey with her family to Vatican City. They were blessed by Pope Francis and received the anointing of the sick sacrament at a private mass, Tucson News Now reports.

When Negrete found out about her cancer a few months ago, she was given two options. With treatment, she would lose several organs  and lose the ability to speak, while the second option was to still keep up her quality of life with no treatment.

She said the visit to Italy gave her peace with her fate and she now hopes to help other children by raising awareness of Make-A-Wish Arizona.
