Firefighters keep north Phoenix brush fire from doing any damage

PHOENIX – A brush fire that broke out Monday at a north Phoenix recreation area has been completely contained, authorities said.

Approximately 50 firefighters from the Phoenix, Daisy Mountain and Peoria fire departments responded to the blaze west of 37th Avenue and north of Pinnacle Vista Drive in the Deems Hill Recreation Area.

The fire burned an estimated 5-10 acres of hillside before being contained.

Despite strong winds from the east that made the situation more difficult to manage, no homes or businesses were ever threatened, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

The fire was doused before it could move north of a Central Arizona Project canal in the area.

Several crews remained on site Monday afternoon to manage hot spots.

No information about the possible cause of the fire was provided.
