PHOENIX — A steel fabrication company is looking to add to its workforce.

Z Modular, the largest independent steel pipe and tube manufacturer in North America, recently signed a 10-year lease for 222,000 square feet of space in Chandler and is planning to hire 150 employees.

The company is also investing $17 million in tenant improvements and equipment, a lot of which is robotic machinery.

Z Modular, part of Zekelman Industries out of Chicago, manufactures prefabricated steel structures in-house before assembling them at the building site.

“Z Modular will add to the diverse mix of employment opportunities Chandler offers,” Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke said in a statement. “This project is a great use of existing infrastructure, and we are excited to see one of our largest industrial buildings at full capacity.”

Brokering the deal was Stein Koss and Tom Louer from Lee & Associates and KW Commercial’s Kristina Hayes.

“Z Modular looked at several properties and several markets before selecting Chandler due to the demographics, workforce and the features this building offered,” Koss said in a statement.

“We also want to thank the City of Chandler’s Economic Development team for their expertise on the local market and their assistance with landing this significant project.”

We want to hear from you.
