Arizona revenue and gaming directors retiring after long careers with state

PHOENIX – Two longtime Arizona public servants — who worked for the state for a combined 54 years — are heading into retirement.
On Friday, Gov. Doug Ducey announced the retirements of David Briant, director of the Department of Revenue, and Dan Bergin, director of the Department of Gaming.
Briant has worked for the state for 31 years, according to a press release. His departure is effective Dec. 1.
Deputy Director Carlton Woodruff will take over as interim director of the revenue department.

Bergin’s retirement, which is effective Nov. 30, comes after he spent 23 years working for the state. He joined the gaming department in 2009 and became director in 2013.
James Ashley will serve as interim director of the gaming department in addition to his duties as director of the Industrial Commission of Arizona.
Earlier this month, Thomas Betlach, head of the state’s Medicaid agency, announced he was retiring after 27 years with the state.
